'Star Wars Rebels: Fighter Flight' Review On Downbeat Direction
An atmosphere of encounter and thrill was the most likely expectations in the episode of "Star Wars Rebels: Fighter Flight". However, reviews seemed unfavourable on its initial release. It was even said to be just like a light filler, a Saturday morning cartoon, and lacks excitement.
The mission set for Zeb and Ezra was mediocre. It was just a means to give the crew a break from the already disturbing petty arguments of the two. So, Hera ordered them to look for a Meiloorun fruit, which is indeed difficult to find, hence, would consume most of their time. This she did despite the fact that a crate of said fruit was already available in the empire.
Ezra's move to just steal it from the empire, is as silly as the task given to them. A bit of encounter occurred when Zeb and the Tie Fighter has gotten into the picture, but still it does not trigger any excitement nor initiates a bold undertaking that are usually expected from these genre.
Inconsistencies in the roles of characters can also be observed as stated in A.V. Club , "To see Zeb go from a metaphorical "uncle with a tragic past" to a more literal "older brother who has had it with his younger brother" is jarring. Mainly, it doesn't make for a good episode."
Despite some imperfections, the film is not totally of poor quality. The Escapist acknowledged that, "Not that "Fighter Flight" is without a few nice character touches, like Sabine's love of painting or Kanan's enjoyment of Holochess. Even better, this episode gives Ezra and Zeb a chance to bury the hatchet and stop this forced rivalry Rebels keeps insisting they have. Perhaps that occurs a little too quickly; Rebels jumps from bickering and death threats to gleefully cracking jokes in no time at all. But it's far more refreshing to watch these two laugh over common ground than argue constantly for no good reason. If we're lucky, this is where that plot point will be forgotten so Rebels can move on to better things."
Regardless of its lack of substance, the episode will not affect the succeeding episodes. It appears to be a light refrain amidst a series of clashes to prove the rebels' prowess.
