U2 Live Performance on Jimmy Fallon 'Tonight Show' NBC Premiere, Watch Both Songs Here (VIDEO)
Jimmy Fallon kicked off his "Tonight Show" career on Monday night with his first show taking over for longtime host Jay Leno on NBC.
The show included several surprise guest appearances from A-list celebrities, but the highlights included guest Will Smith and first musical guest of the show, U2. Rather then performing in the studio, Fallon introduced his first musical guest from 70 stories up, overlooking New York City, and U2 performed to a small but energetic audience on the rooftop with a spectacular view. U2 played their new single "Invisible" and had Bono had his usual showmanship and gave the small crowd all they could've wanted in that intimate performance.
After the break, U2 came out as a guest with Jimmy for the next segment and fans got to hear what was going on recently in the life of the band. Then, everyone viewing got a surprise as Fallon asked the band to play another song acoustic right there in their seats. The "impromptu" performance was of their hit song "Ordinary Love" from the Nelson Mandela film soundtrack.
It was a strong opening night for "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon and now we will see if he can keep up the momentum. It is definitely ushering in a new generation as Jay Leno was over 60 and Fallon is just 39. Jimmy has a very humble and genuine quality about him though that has a great chance to endear him to the American public for many years to come. His guests for his first week include: Jerry Seinfeld, First Lady Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, Kristen Wiig, Tim McGraw, Bradley Cooper, Will Ferrell, Justin Timberlake and more.
