ABC to Make TV Anthology Series Adapted From Tom Hanks' 1984 "Bachelor Party" Movie
ABC has ordered a put pilot half hour comedy anthology series based on the Tom Hanks-starrer 1984 film according to Deadline. The "Bachelor Party" TV series will be focusing on three couples: "one about to get married, another recently divorced and a third just falling in love." The small-screen adaptation of the comedy movie will be a co-creation of writer-producers JJ Philbin and Josh Malmuth. Envisioned as an anthology, each season of Bachelor Party will be featuring a storyline based on a different wedding party. Each season, like the "American Horror Story" and "True Detective" TV anthologies, will also be having a whole new batch of characters. According to the studio, 20th Century Fox TV will produce the show which JJ Philbin, Jake Johnson, Jason Winer, Max Winkler and Renate Radford will executive produce. Jason Winer and Max Wilner will also alternate in directing the show.
In the Tom Hanks comedy movie, his character Rick Gassko, after being a party-animal for so long, decides to finally settle down and marry his girlfriend Debbie Thompson. His friends arranges to throw him the bachelor party to end all bachelor parties. The bride's parents disapproves of Debbie's choice for her husband so they enlisted the help of her ex-boyfriend Cole Whittier to break them up and win her back. On the appointed day, Rick heads off to the bachelor party while Debbie goes off to her bridal shower. Cole managed to sabotage both parties. Both parties eventually collide leading to Debbie accusing Rick of infidelity. Both parties also end up into one big drunken orgy. Just as the party is being raided by the police, Rick convinces Debbie of his faithfulness to her. In the confusion following the raid, Cole kidnaps Debbie leaving Rick and his friends to chase after them, culminating in the big showdown between the movie's hero and villain. The hero of course wins and in the end finally marries Debbie.
