Moto 360 Smartwatch: Android Wear Updates Now Seeding, Could Increase Battery Life, Add Mood Lighting and Offline Music Support
Motorola's Moto 360 Smartwatch which launched just last month and is now available in stores for $249.99 has begun getting its first Android Wear software system update from Google. According to Tuesday's post from Lally Narwal at the official Motorola Blog, "We will roll out the new software in phases. Look for the update notification on your watch! You will be prompted to install. To install the update, make sure that you're connected to your phone with an internet connection and that your watch has at least 80% battery."
The update will be bringing new features, including smart battery saving, to the Moto 360 smartwatch. When the battery level dips below 15%, the new feature will turn off the screen and ambient light mode automatically. The watch will also adapt its display lighting based on the environment while being charged. Another feature will allow Moto 360 to synchronize the time with your smartphone more often to make sure it is up to the minute. Moreover, "a new gesture now lets you see the full watch face without permanently dismissing a notification," says Narwal, "Just touch the top of a notification and swipe down. You'll see the notification again when you have another high priority notification." There will also be a couple of under-the-hood enhancements that will pave the way for connecting Bluetooth headsets to the watch, according to Motorola, and "as usual, bugs are squashed to enhance the overall user experience."
Google on Thursday announced that the Android Wear update, which it will be rolling out to Moto 360, Sony's SmartWatch 3, LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live and other smartwatches running on its OS, will also be including offline music support, so that music can now be stored on the smartwatch and re-played with the aid of a Bluetooth headphone or speaker, as well as GPS support for those watches with the required hardware. Currently however, the only smartwatch with a built-in GPS sensor is Sony's SmartWatch 3.
