National Anthem Mess Up at World Series Game 5 from Staind Singer Aaron Lewis, Watch Here (VIDEO)
We always watch the national anthem before sporting events and wait for someone to sing the words in the wrong order (since we can't remember them half of the time bey ourselves) but usually the artist makes it out with everything correctly in place.
Unfortunately, this was not the case for Staind singer Aaron Lewis, who was in San Francisco on Sunday night to sing the national anthem before Game 5 of the World Series between the Giants and K.C. Royals.
His nerves got the best of him and he replaced "at the twilight's last gleaming" with lyrics that come later in the song, "were so gallantly streaming." You can watch the video above of his performance and the players seeming to react to his mistake. Aaron kept signing though and showed off his strong voice making his way through the rest of the song.
Lewis released a statement on Sunday night apologizing for his mistake:
"All I can say is I'm sorry and ask for the Nation's forgiveness. My nerves got the best of me and I am completely torn up about what happened. America is the greatest country in the world. The Star-Spangled Banner means so much to so many, including myself. I hope everyone can understand the intensity of the situation and my true intent of this performance. I hope that the Nation, Major League Baseball and the many fans of our national pastime can forgive me."
The game ended up with the Giants winning 5-0 to take a 3 to 2 series lead back to Kansas City for the final two games of the World Series (if needed).
