Fireflight "We Are Alive" Single Review

Trials like the rays of the sun can either harden our hearts into bitterness as wet cement solidifies in the heat. Or they can soften our hearts to rely on Jesus just as the same rays melt a piece of ice. "We Are Alive" is a song about the latter. A song that is birthed out of life's wreckages and utilizes its lifeline in ceaseless praise is a song worthy of attention. "We Are Alive" calls to mind the words of the Apostle Paul in Phil 2:14-16 that if we hold on to the word of life even in our pain we can "shine like the stars."
Trussed with spooky synths over a mildly electronic vibe, "We Are Alive" finds lead vocalist Dawn Michele puts her breathy Brooke Fraser-like vocals to glowing effects as she sings, "We're shining like the stars, just being who we are, we are alive." And the apex of the tune is in it chorus. With a punchy beat incorporating an EDM vibe, the chorus is so hooky that it's hard to get it out of your head when the song's over.
"We Are Alive" is the sophomore single to Fireflight's brand new album "INNOVA" coming out on May 5th. The record is also their first stab after leaving their major label. Judging from this new single, looks like even when they are on their own, they still have a way to make their music come alive.
