Two Years Ago Darlene Zschech Was Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Two years ago, worship leader Darlene Zschech was disgnosed with breast cancer. Darlene Zschech is the songwriter of the popular worship song "Shout to the Lord," and for many years, she was the worship pastor of Hillsong Church. Zschech was the one that spearheaded the worship team and brought their songs (such as "Mighty to Save," "Hosanna," "Worthy is the Lamb") to an international level. Today over 30 million people across the globe sing Zschech's "Shout to the Lord" in countless numbers of languages.
In what was supposed to be a regular checkup at her doctor's, she was diagnosed with having breast cancer. Zschech writes: "I am lying in bed, and my lovely hubby of 31 years has just brought me in a piccolo latte, which is my daily indulgence. In a couple of days time, it will be two years since the day I went into the city to have my breast scan, only to find out that I indeed DID have breast cancer and my life was about to shift dramatically. There are so many thoughts that rush through my brain, and to be honest, if I wake up in pain due to meds I am now on, I have had to learn to take these thoughts captive and REPLACE them with the words of Jesus."
In her bouts with cancer, Zschech credits the Bible as the source of her strength in her tough times. She explains: "Constant words of LIFE are like my physical food, and the Bible says that HIS words are health to my bones. It's a more intense discipline of my thought life which is new for me. And, even though I am a disciplined person, this is a deeper level of dependence, of feasting on HIS food for me, and a new level of CASTING all of my care onto God."
Yet, her sufferings are not in vain, rather they make her more reflective, God-dependent, and grateful. "So, if I seem a little reflective today, it's because I am. I am a very thankful woman, one who treasures her family and friends, her church family both locally and globally, and one who is desperate to walk out ALL of the purposes God has for my life. I remain ever grateful. Grateful for fast acting surgeons, for kind hearted medical professionals who have walked with me every step of the journey, to my family and friends who keep cheering me on, and always to my heavenly Father whose love holds me, sustains me, heals me and inspires me to be more like Him."
Zschech has just released her new book "Worship Changes Everything," where she shares with us her life not only on stage but also in everyday reality of living. Here's the synopsis of the book: "It can be easy to have a heart filled with worship on a Sunday morning as the church band is playing your favorite song. But then comes Monday morning's commute or Tuesday afternoon's pile of laundry.
So what does worship look like in real life--at work, in your family, or with your friends? Darlene Zschech has spent her life thinking and teaching about worship. With wisdom and contagious joy, she shares her thoughts on what worship truly is and how it should invade every facet of your being. Let yourself be transformed by the purpose and freedom that come from living a life of worship."
