Kenny Chesney Helps Reunite Teens With Their Mom After Hurricane Irma

An endless line of weather events has really wrecked havoc on the U.S. and its' surrounding areas recently. Hurricanes like Harvey and Irma have destroyed the day-to-day lives of so many, making the simplest of tasks to seem like an impossibility. Thankfully, at each turn people have stepped up to help those who have no choice but to begin the painstaking task of rebuilding. A stream of celebs like Taylor Swift and Paul Simon have donated food and money, but Kenny Chesney opted to help out in a more personal and unique way. He helped two teenage brothers to join their mother in safety.
Following Hurricane Irma's path through the U.S. Virgin Islands, Jah-Haile and Jahbioseh Bruce were trapped with their grandfather in their childhood home on St. John. They survived Irma's landfall on the island and were left with nothing after the storm had finally passed. Fortunately, the two were picked up by a boat with supplies and other evacuees that was headed to St. Croix. When they arrived, they were greeted and immediately taken in by the mother of the men who owned the boat that rescued them from St. John.
The brothers knew that the safest place for them would be with their own mother, who lives in Philadelphia. Of course there were no commercial flights flying out of St. Croix. The story made news and suddenly an anonymous patron donated his private jet to reunite the boys with their mother. That good Samaritan was none other than Chesney, who has owned a home in St. John for years.
"That place and the people mean so much more to me than my house... I'm gonna do everything that I possibly can to try to relieve some stress from people that I've really grown to love over the years, who have meant so much to my life. This place, these islands, have... shaped me as a human being." explained Chesney in a recent interview.
The singer's desire to help runs much deeper than just helping to reunite a family. Chesney has created a new relief foundation called Love for Love City, a reference to St. John's nickname of "Love City." The foundation's goal is to provide disaster relief to the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Check out the video below for more information on how you can also help.
