Candace Cameron Bure Interviews: "Fuller House" Actress Talks Building Bridges Between Hollywood, Faith Community
“Fuller House” actress Candace Cameron Bure has opened up about how Christian values are guiding her in bridging the gap between Hollywood and the faith community.
"Kindness always wins," Bure said to Dove Channel’s “Frankly Faraci” host Matthew Faraci. "No matter what, kindness wins. It doesn't mean backing down; there's a difference. I can stand my ground and keep the love and be kind."
Bure has been part of the Hollywood community for the past three decades, starring as D.J. Tanner on the popular sitcom "Full House,” participating in “Dancing with the Stars” as a competitor, and joining “The View” as co-host.
“It's not our job to force a person to change and understand," the 41-year-old actress-producer said. "That's the Holy Spirit's job, not ours. So, when you take down that defensive wall of, 'I have to convince this person and they have to think like me,' I find that taking that wall down is through compassion."
Bure is known for openly expressing her Christian faith and its impact on all the projects that she handles.
"I'm trying to be a bridge builder," she added, pointing towards her Christian values while working in Hollywood, "because I think that both sides can get misunderstood because we always see the worst of people on either side, and I don't think the majority of people are really like that.”
On “The View,” Bure remained to be the only traditionalist Christian and has come to a clash several times with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Raven Symone. During her time on the show, the actress-turned-author openly expressed her views about abortion and praying in public schools, among other issues.
While Bure admitted that she never expected to be given “that seat” on the show, the mother-of-three attributes her successful career to her faith.
“It certainly grew me in ways that I never expected in my career and as a person,” she added. Given the fact that she does not have political ties or even a political background, the Los Angeles native recalled doing “ten times as much homework” as the other hosts.
Nonetheless, despite having disagreements, Bure said she always makes an attempt to show compassion and understanding for every person she meets, regardless of their relationship.
