"Paul, Apostle of Christ" Opens in Theaters March 28
The official trailer for the upcoming film "Paul, Apostle of Christ," is finally here. The movie, coming to theaters nationwide March 28, is the first feature film ever to tell the story of Paul the Apostle, with James Faulkner in the lead role as Paul, and Jim Cavaziel as Luke, who is performing his first Biblical role since playing Jesus in the award-winning 2004 film "The Passion of The Christ."
"Paul, Apostle of Christ" tells the story of the two men, Paul and his friend and physician Luke, the latter who is risking his life to visit Paul, held captive in Rome by Roman Emperor Neo who is determined to rid the empire of Christians, not hesitating to execute them in the grisliest and most humiliating ways possible.
Luke, played by Cavaziel, is determined to write another book, a book that details the beginnings of "The Way," the early years of what will come to be known as the church. For Paul, bound in chains, the struggle is internal. He has survived floggings, shipwrecks, starvation, stoning, hunger and thirst, cold and exposure, yet as he waits for his death sentence to be carried out, he is haunted by the shadows of his past misdeeds. He wonders if he has been forgotten and if he has the strength to finish the race.
Together, the two men struggle against a determined emperor and the weaknesses of the human spirit in order to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and spread their message to the ends of the earth.
In an interview with USA Today, Caviezel praised the performance of the lead actor, "James Faulkner is to Paul as Christopher Reeve is to Superman. This guy was born to play Paul. When he was walking around, it was in his behavior. You couldn't find someone else who organically nails it like this."
Speaking about the core message of the film, Cavaziel says forgiveness does not just require love, but "ardent love." He explains, "It's really easy to love people who think like you think; it's very hard to treat someone with a polar opposite view with the same dignity and respect you would treat a friend."
On social media, anticipation is stirring, with one fan Jenn commenting on Facebook, "Chills. I think Faulkner will do a fantastic job bringing Paul to living, breathing status again...and we all know the strength Caviezel has. So looking forward to this movie ." Another Facebook user, Vicki, writes, "I'm going and inviting everyone I know to join me! Thank you for making this film - it's so timely....its so needed! Praise God!"
