David Crowder Exceeds Expectations with New Album “Neon Steeple”

After singing with the David Crowder Band for over two decades, David Crowder has finally released his brand new solo record "Neon Steeple" on sixstepsrecords and Sparrow Records on May 27, 2014. The album has thus far exceeded the expectations of everyone. Not only did it debut on #1 on Billboard's Christian Album chart but it also entered Billboard 200 at #9, selling 22,000 copies on its first week.
Produced by Ed Cash, David Crowder, Jared Fox, Will Hunt, Solomon Olds, Christian Paschall, Gabe Scott and Christopher Stevens, "Neon Steeple" was slated to be released on February 18, 2014. However, due to "unavoidable circumstances," the release date was postponed until now. Yet, it was indeed worth the wait. Creating the buzz is the album's lead single "I Am" which became a #3 hit on Billboard's Christian Song chart. Currently serving radio is the sophomore single "My Beloved."
"Neon Steeple" is a textbook example of what a stellar "folktronica" record ought to sound like. Here Crowder takes two steps back in garnering the best sounds from folk music, including enlisting a Hank Williams tune, throwing in lots of banjos, and even recruiting Americana Queen Emmylou Harris as his duet partner. But he also takes a step forward by utilizing the best of today's electronic technology in fusing together a computerized folk record. Most interesting is the album cover: it uses scanimation to animate the text on the album's cover and liner notes in a stunning way.
As a result, "Neon Steeple" has received rave reviews from critics. Andrea Hunter of Worship Leader rated the album a perfect five stars, indicating saying Crowder "never settles into predictability" and displays "the edge of emotion in glistening pop." Nathaniel Key of HM Magazine rated the album four stars out of five, calling it "a fresh, relevant and innovative debut release". While John Brandon of Christianity Today states that "Neon Steeple" is ready to lead us there" into a new era of "Christian worship."
