Outkast Singer Andre 3000 New Movie 2014 Transforms into Jimi Hendrix in  'Jimi: All Is By My Side', Watch New Trailer Here (VIDEO)

Outkast member, Andre 3000 (Andre Benjamin) is taking on the role of one of music history's biggest icons, Jimi Hendrix. Andre's new movie Jimi: All Is By My Side has released a new trailer for the upcoming bio-pic, you can check it out above.

The 39-year-old musician will be joined by co-stars Imogen Poots and Hayley Atweel to focus on Hendrix's 'pre-fame' years. The film is written and directed by John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) and produced by Danny Bramson. 

Andre worked hard to make everything authentic, learning how to play the guitar like Hendrix, left handed with a right-hand guitar strung upside down and spent six hours per day practicing guitar. 

Ridley could not secure the rights to Hendrix's music collection from his estate who refused to support the movie. So with this in mind, the movie only covers a year in Hendrix's life from 1966-67 as an unknown backup guitarist playing New York's Cheetah Club to making his mark in London's music scene up until his Monterey Pop triumph. The movie presents Jimi as a sensitive young musician on the verge of becoming a rock legend. So focusing on this time frame allows not his popular music to hinder the movie. 

"I was never preoccupied with getting the iconic material," producer Danny Bramson told Billboard. "I felt so strongly in trying to go for interpretation of Hendrix and the musical environment that surrounded him and mirrored his sense of finding himself as a guitarist."
