The Story Behind Rob Westall's "At Your Feet We Fall"
Filmed on November 23rd 2019 at Warehouse Church, Newport, Wales. Rob Westall brings us the live version of his song "At Your Feet We Fall.'' Rob Westall is one of a growing number of Welsh writers bringing forth a new wave of worship! This event that featured Rob Westall and a group of amazing worship leaders brought a night of spirit filled and moving worship.
Rob Westall shares the story behind his new song: "Figuring out our purpose in life can be difficult at the best of times. Throw a global pandemic into the mix, with well-established businesses, industries and institutions crumbling before our very eyes and even those of us who had some clarity on the way forward, can be forgiven for thinking that life's Sat Nav has just crashed and got us well and truly lost. I entered the worship music ministry full-time last September. I had clear direction and bookings and then . . . Covid-19 hit. Now there's no possibility of playing any live events anytime soon - something that was central to the sustainability of the ministry.
I take comfort in God's word to us - the Bible. One promise says that God has a "plans" for us (Jeremiah 29:11-14) and plans to that are good for us, not to harm us, but to give us a hope and future. The passage calls on us to turn to Him, to pray to Him and call upon His name and He promises to listen when we seek Him with all of our hearts.
The Bible also says that God knows us better than we know ourselves. So surely, He is the best person to turn to if we feel lost or can't see the way forward because He is above it and can see the best route for us.
The music and melody for 'At your feet we fall' was written during a powerful intimate time of worship with God. Just me, my guitar and Him. As it dropped, I knew this was a powerful song, I even knew what it was about - coming before a Holy God and laying my all before Him and surrendering my ways to Him, even my plans. The lyrics didn't come as easily, even though I knew what they were about, and I had to turn to Him for direction. The thing is, God desires us. He wants us to enter into His presence, to talk (pray) to Him to be with Him. Throughout the lyric writing process, it was as if God was saying, "I could give you this song in a heartbeat, but I'm enjoying the ride, spending time with you."
As the song says, doing what we were born to do - to worship and follow the "God of creation" and the "Lord of Salvation" is our plan and our purpose. In a nutshell: "Let my life story, sing of your glory, lifting up your name."
