Country Music Goes Gospel This Week

Country music is a close cousin of Christian and Gospel music. Over the years, artists (such as Randy Travis, Reba, Kim Hill, Chris Tomlin, and many others) have crossed borders. This week, in particular, three of country music's biggest stars, Carrie Underwood, Lady A's Hillary Scott, and the Oak Ridge Boys have done it again.
Seven-time Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood drops her first hymns album My Savior today. The album features 13 hymns, one of which is a duet with CeCe Winans. Underwood says: "It's been such a blessing to make music like this, inspirational music that is near and dear to my heart."
'My Savior' is also a companion release to 'My Gift'. "These two albums have been on my musical bucket list since the beginning of my career and were planned long before the events of the past year, but somehow it feels like the perfect time to share these beloved songs with the world."
Lady A's Hillary Scott has also taken the Gospel route as she takes over as host of Country Faith Radio on Apple Music Country. In the biweekly two-hour radio show, Hillary shares songs and stories that inspire her both musically and spiritually.
On hosting Country Faith Radio on Apple Music Country, Scott says: "I was so excited to be asked to host Country Faith Radio this season. I'm looking forward to having some of my dear friends on to catch up on life and what's most important to us. I also can't wait to share songs that have truly impacted me, have helped get me through difficult times and really just help remind us how connected we all are."
Released this week is the Oak Ridge Boys' brand new single "Love, Light, and Healing" (listen HERE). This is the first single off their upcoming album Front Porch Singin'. The song is a prayer to God to help us in bringing joy and peace to others. This song is particularly poignant for those who are suffering during this pandemic.
We pray for peace, we pray for calm
We wish you open hearts and open arms
Please grant us mercy and happiness
Let us rejoice in the joy we have
We wish you love, light, and healing
Home, family, and faith
