Ian Yates of Elim Sound Reveals How Their New Album Addresses the Big Questions of Life

UK-based Elim Sound are back with a brand new album God is Still Moving, which will be released on May 7th. The brand new collection features 15 new worship songs contributed by over 40 songwriters. It is their biggest collaboration so far. Since the album was recorded during the pandemic, all the songs were recorded in homes and studios all across the UK, with Ian Yates on the producer chair and Trevor Michael at the mixing table.
The album is a powerful reminder that God is still moving even in these troubled times. Ian Yates reveals, "The overarching theme is that God is still moving, God is still at work. This last year has been a real challenge for many of us. We've all been affected by Covid19 in so many ways, yet amongst the tensions and struggles we are facing, we are firmly convinced that God is still moving, God is working.
Here in the UK many of our church buildings have closed and many of our programmes have changed but that doesn't stop God moving, that doesn't stop the church being the church. God is not confined by our buildings and our programmes. This album is a declaration that though our hopes and plans may have been dashed and many of us have had a really tough year in so many ways, God is still at work, God is still faithful, God is still with us and He is worthy of all our praise."
Compared to their previous albums, the songs are even stronger. They are more mature and daring. They also address some of the big questions of life, including human sufferings and what the church looks like in this pandemic age. There is even an element of lament to God through these songs.
Yates continues, "I think a lot of people have been asking good / big questions about what does it look like to be the church, how do we do church, how do we live as Christians. This last 12 months have made a lot of people press the reset button. Many have lost loved ones, many have faced their biggest life challenges to date. I think we need to be honest and real and equally we need to remind ourselves that God is with us, He is working in us, He is still moving. Our prayer is that these songs provide a soundtrack for us all as we navigate this season of tension, trusting the One who holds it all, Christ Jesus.
Musically we always want the songs to be accessible for our local churches but we also wanted to push that a little too. We always want to add new voices into the mix and give opportunity to others within the movement, there are 3 brand new vocalists and 5 new writers on this album."
Nevertheless, the album is crafted as a testimony. These 15 songs collectively speak of God's presence among us. "I think we need to be honest and real and equally we need to remind ourselves that God is with us, He is working in us, He is still moving. Our prayer is that these songs provide a soundtrack for us all as we navigate this season of tension, trusting the One who holds it all, Christ Jesus."
