Bryan Popin Reflects on the Rocky and Heartbreaking Road to #1

This week Bryan Popin scores a Billboard #1 song, this is a career first for the singer and songwriter. Bryan Popin's "Beautiful Savior" (featuring Tasha Page-Lockhart) climbs onto the #1 position on Billboard's Gospel Airplay chart. Though Popin has had six charted entries, his former best performing song was "I Got Out," which peaked at #4 in 2017.
However, the road to success was not easy for Popin. It was paved with heartaches. Popin reveals that his early days in the industry had been met with negative criticisms: from the spelling of his name to his choice of songs to the musical drection he had chosen. Popin writes, "All the negativity, it drove me. The craZy spelled names, Byron/Bryon/Bryant/Brian/Brain/Poppin/Poopin/Pippin... being over-looked, forgotten, not included, asked why I sing Gospel music, then asked why I don't sing CCM music, back-in-the-day at radio events being called the sound guy & if I could get them a 1/4" line!!?? LOL."
Moreover, last year was a year of pain for Popin. First of all, he lost his own father to death. Then the pandemic short-circuited his income and touring opportunities. He laments, "Def the most trying, the most painful, the darkest, loneliest and at times... angry. Not being able to travel due to the pandemic. Not knowing how to provide for my lil ones. Church dates / LIVE events, all canceled. Still canceled! The anxiety, the frustration. The F E A R. The loss of my Dad."
In the midst of all the bad news, Popin is elated to learn that his new single has made it to #1. "This "Beautiful Savior" rescued me, healed me & set me free. HE is faithful.Thank you @tashapagelockhart for answering the call & delivering your heart on this song. U are so special 2 me. Thank you to everyone that believed in & supported my music."
Most touching is Popin's personal thanks to his own family members. "My best friend/wife & all my kids... Thank you 4 putting up w/ me being home so much this craZy year! LOL Daddy loves you."
