Michael W. Smith's Mother Passes Away

Michael W. Smith's mother Barbara Smith passed away on July 10th after a period of illness. Barbara Smith passed away with her loving family by her side. She breathed her last breath after hearing her son's song "All is Well" for the last time.
"What a day it has been," Michael sighed. "I watched my mom take her final breath as the song `All Is Well' ended. Exact same thing happened when my dad crossed over in November 2015. A bittersweet day...
But so thrilled for my mom. She is extraordinary on so many levels. And what an amazing mom she was to my sister Kimberly and I. And an amazing grand mother, great grandmother... And friend to so many. I will miss her terribly. Grateful to all of you who prayed for me and my family during this time. Love to all."
Michael has nothing but thanksgiving for his parents' lives. "I had a good mom and dad. I had a praying mom and dad," Michael revealed. "And you know what, for those who don't, I believe that God can father you and God can mother you, so my mom was a perfect example of that.
She got left on the doorstep when she was eight years old with her two younger sisters and brother, and her real mother walked out and never came back. So my mom could have been a mess, but she just chose to let God mother her and she's awesome. There's just so many factors, so many miracles happened. I am a miracle. I'm a walking miracle at the end of the day. "
Michael was born to Paul and Barbara Smith in Kenova, West Virginia. His father was an oil refinery worker and his mother was a caterer and a church secretary.
