Hillsong's Global Senior Pastor Bobbie Houston Reflects on the Upcoming Movie "THE JESUS MUSIC"

Hillsong's Global Senior Pastor Bobbie Houston had the opportunity to watch the upcoming new DocuFilm THE JESUS MUSIC. The movie will be released on the big screens on October 1st. Directed by the Erwin Brothers ("I Can Only Imagine," "I Still Believe", "American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story"), THE JESUS MUSIC re-tells the story of the rise of CCM.
The movie will feature key interviews with the genre's biggest stars including Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, TobyMac, Kirk Franklin, and Lauren Daigle. With stories of trials and triumphs, the universal power of music from these artists shine through from their messages of passion, sacrifice, and redemption that inspire millions of devoted listeners.
This is what Houston has to say after watching the film: "I had the privilege to view this film as it was approaching final edit. It brought back memories. As a new believer, the songs of the 70s became the soundtrack of my own genuine new found faith in JESUS. Maranatha Music, Love Song, Second Chapter of Acts blared from my little green Austin 1100 as I picked up stacks of friends to drive them to youth, Bible study, Sunday church and summer conventions on the beach (where I met Brian btw).
I loved this film for the nostalgia, memories, and the insights of a move of God on the earth. And aswith every fresh move, outpouring or spiritual awakening those decades were filled with wonder, miracles, joy, learning curves, the unexpected, and the challenges that come with GOD DOING A NEW THING.
Watch it with gratitude.
Watch it with humility.
Watch it with maturity.
Watch it with faith.
We enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with Praise. We are told to sing of His greatness again and again and from one generation to another. Psalm 145 to Psalm 150 are in and of themselves a powerful exclamation mark for every man, woman and child seeking to pilgrim their way home to heaven. In ancient times battle was won as musicians and singers went out before the people declaring His majesty and authority. And testimony, story and truth has always been set to lyric and musical score.
As I watched I perceived God at work amongst a band of pioneering music makers. And as with any genuine move that points people heavenward, there is tension, opposition, battles and even tragedy - yet the miracle working power of God's Spirit will always prevail.
All I know (as one who has lived my entire life in a church resounding with worship), is that the earth needs to hear the "songs of heaven" to arrest attention to a better and more magnificent world - a world where Creator and creation collide again and again and again in the greatest Love story ever told. To God be the Glory. May no enemy of the Living God ever quench the sound of genuine worship rising on the earth."
