for KING & COUNTRY's Luke Smallbone Shares a Personal Story About How to Be Thankful

Four-time GRAMMY® award-winning duo and Platinum-selling Curb | Word Entertainment recording artist for KING & COUNTRY'S Luke Smallbone has taken the time to reflect on Thanksgiving. As a way of encouraging us to be thankful, Smallbone tells a personal story before giving us practical ways of how we can be thankful to our God in this festive season.
Smallbone writes, "Many years ago now (when I was in high school), I experienced my first real struggle in life. It was my dream to play a college sport and during the first basketball game of my junior year, I blew out my knee.
I'll never forget sitting on the sideline telling my coach that I couldn't go back in and that I thought I'd done significant damage to my knee. Or the call to my mother asking her to schedule the doctors appointment. I was very sad in that moment.
I'm sure you're wondering, "Why is Luke telling this story on Thanksgiving?" Well, that first basketball game was just before Thanksgiving and in my family, we all would go around the table saying something that we were thankful for. During that year, I felt like I didn't have anything. How do you become thankful when you feel like you have nothing to be thankful for? When you feel as though the world is against you? Or when failure abounds?
I think you have to start small. Start thanking God for the air in your lungs. For the loved one who loves you just for being you. For that meal that you had with your dearest friend. When I start being grateful for the small things that have happened in life, I find that my current circumstances matter very little and my thankful heart returns.
I'm not sure what Thanksgiving is like for you this year, but I hope that when you start pondering what you're thankful for, no matter how small, you'll find something for your heart to latch onto. So on behalf of Joel and I, a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. And allow me to be the first to say, Merry Christmas!"
