The Talleys Offer a Spirited Live Version of "I'll Fly Away"

"You all know this one, so join in and sing with us," exclaims Roger Talley as the piano rolls into the opening notes of The Talleys' latest entry in their Messages To Treasure series, a collection of live performances of some of their best-known and most requested songs - and indeed, it's a safe bet that not just that night's audience, but today's listeners, too, know "I'll Fly Away," one of the most beloved songs in the entire gospel music canon. Written by Albert E. Brumley, it's been interpreted innumerable times, yet in a testament to their profound musicality and the depth of their faith, The Talleys make it their own in this energetic rendition.
The track begins with the entire trio's reading of the first verse and chorus, followed by an impromptu appearance by singer Ivan Parker, and then a spirited solo offering from Lauren Talley that leads to two more joyous choruses. By the end, a listener can almost feel the audience's enthusiasm pouring out of the speakers.
"'I'll Fly Away' is probably the quintessential convention-style gospel song," Roger Talley notes. "The Talleys closed many of our concerts with this stirring version. One evening in Lancaster, Ohio, Ivan Parker joined us on stage to sing 'I'll Fly Away' with us, and the audience was on their feet, singing and enjoying the song. Listen to one of your all-time favorites and join the celebration!"
