'Into the Woods' Release Date 2014, Watch First Official Trailer Starring Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine & Meryl Streep Here (VIDEO)
Disney's highly anticipated new movie Into the Woods from Stephen Sondheim has released its first look trailer (watch first trailer above).
Meryl Streep plays a witch in the trailer teaser, teaching each popular children's character lessons about wishing. The tales include Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. To bring this plot and cast alive is a star-studded cast including Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, and Johnny Depp in the mix.
There is no singing in the trailer, a first look at several of the characters speaking "I wish". Into the Woods was originally a musical written by Stephen Sondheim (also known for his work Sweeney Todd, and writing the lyrics for West Side Story), is a tale about tales; classic fairy tales to be exact. Many have been waiting years for the film adaptation of Into the Woods and now it is officially coming.
Some are wary that the movie will be a let down from the original musical and that Disney will take out some of the musical's elements to create a less challenging and more widely appealing story. However, Sondheim, who is widely regarded in the musical world released a statement saying, "When the conversation with the teachers occurred, I had not yet seen a full rough cut of the movie. Coincidentally, I saw it immediately after leaving the meeting and, having now seen it a couple of times, I can happily report that it is not only a faithful adaptation of the show, it is a first-rate movie."
Into the Woods is set to release to theaters on Christmas Day 2014.
