"The First Hymn" – A Cinematic Journey Through 1,800 Years of Worship

This summer, audiences worldwide will be invited to step into a story that began in persecution and continues in praise. The First Hymn, a stunning new documentary event, traces the journey of the earliest known Christian hymn from the crumbling scrolls of antiquity to the voices of believers today.
Featuring reflections from worship leader Chris Tomlin and songwriter Ben Fielding (Hillsong Worship), the film explores how this ancient song-first sung by a Church under Roman oppression-has endured nearly two thousand years.
"The Church sang even as it was silenced," shares Fielding. "These lyrics have outlived empires, reminding us that worship is not confined to a moment-it's a testimony carried by generations."
In The First Hymn, viewers will witness the hymn's resurrection from fragments discovered by historians, hear its haunting melody reconstructed, and join voices as it resounds today in living rooms, churches, and even cinemas. The immersive surround sound experience makes audiences part of the worship story-one that has transcended time and persecution.
"To sing the same words as the earliest believers is humbling," says Tomlin. "It connects us not just to history, but to the heart of God."
This is more than a documentary. It's an invitation to remember that worship is more than a song. It's a declaration of faith that continues to echo through the ages.
