Academy Award Winner Robin Williams Found Dead
Hollywood is again deeply mourning for another huge loss to the industry, with Robin Williams, Oscar winner and comedic legend was pronounced dead Monday morning at his residence in Tiburon, California by the Marin County Sheriff Department after an emergency call. He was 63.
The police preliminary report indicates that Williams' death is an apparent suicide due to asphyxia. Asphyxia is the extreme condition caused by the lack of oxygen in the blood due to restricted respiration, excess of carbon dioxide or suffocation. However, further investigation are still being addressed to make a final statement about the real cause of the actor's death.
The actor and his battle with severe depression was no secret to the public. In the early 1980's, he was reported to already have struggles with drugs and made the joke, "Cocaine is God's way of telling you you are making too much money." He was also known to have returned to a 12-step treatment program according to his press representative, as well as another treatment back in 2006 after suffering a relapse. And during a comedy tour, he was still in his comical manner while joking about him getting into rehab so that he could keep his options open.
Despite his struggles with drugs and depression, Williams' talent never seemed to diminish nor affected. With his claim to fame in the late 1970s as the alien from the TV show "Mork & Mindy," he went on to make more wonderful performances most notably in "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "The Fisher King" in which he all won Golden Globes, and his Oscar-winning performance in "Good Will Hunting."
