'Oculus' Rumors and Latest News: Handheld Virtual Reality Controller to be Revealed at the Company's Conference?
Oculus is well known in the world of virtual reality devices. One of its more popular products is the Oculus Rift, which allows users to be in a virtual reality environment. As TechCrunch pointed out, the greatest pitfall of this product is that, for it to work optimally, it needs to be integrated with other components such as controllers from a different manufacturer. These controllers are needed so that users of the headset can move their avatars, fire guns, and have the device run other commands.
This situation, wherein Oculus Rift users have to rely on unofficial controllers, is probably why rumors abound about a new exiciting product from the company.
According to the report that was posted on the TechCrunch website, as well as the entry found on Drexel, it seems that this product being talked about is a controller that has been designed by Oculus itself. The rumors claim that either this will become the official controller for the virtual reality headset or it will be a controller industry standard.
TechCrunch said that the product's rumored unveiling will happen at the Oculus Virtual Reality Conference. In any case, the controller would definitely be welcome, as this will make things a lot easier for game developers to come up with titles that are more complex than the ones already released.
In addition, TechCrunch has also reported that there were 4 sources that claimed a new gamepad may just be included in the presentation that will take place in the Oculus Connect Virtual Reality Conference.
For those who are interested to know how users are currently operating their Oculus Rift, TechCrunch said that a number of developers are using either a console video game controllers, that have already been hacked, or virtual reality controllers from another company. The Sixense STEM is one of such third-party VR controller that was cited.
STEM allows Oculus VR headset users to "pipe inputs beyond head movements," TechCrunch explained. The technology website has also made a statement regarding its own opinion about what the controller would look like - something that may share similarities with a traditional Xbox controller or Wii Nunchuks.
Hopefully, Oculus really has some good news to tell at its conference, especially those pertaining to the impressive headset it has just released a few months ago.
