The Lego Movie 2 Release In 2017, Already Sure Of Being Followed By Still 2 More Lego Movies In 2018 and 2019
The Lego Movie 2 release date is May 26, 2017, according to an announcement from Warner Bros. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be returning as producers. Chris McKay, who was animation co-director on the first movie, has been hired to direct the sequel. The movie plot is presently still being developed by Lord and Miller, who will also be working on the screenplay with Michelle Morgan and Jared Stern. There's still no official Lego 2 movie trailer as filming hasn't started yet.
Chris Pratt who played 'Emmett Brickowski' in original, told Metro that he wants to return for the sequel although there's no official word yet on the final Lego 2 Movie cast. Said Pratt: "I don't know anything. I hope I'm back. I loved working with Chris and Phil and I hope Emmett is crucial to the story... I hope that Emmett isn't disposable, he was such a great big part of that movie... I'm so proud of that movie. There was a nice buzz around it during the press for it. People hadn't seen anything like it in a long time. But I don't know. I hope [I'm back]."
The first Lego movie (2014), which was made with a budget of just $60 million, grossed $257.8 million in North America, and $210.3 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $468.1 million according to Box Office Mojo. It was also positively received by critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave it an approval rating of 95% and a critics' consensus summary which states: "Boasting beautiful animation, a charming voice cast, laugh-a-minute gags, and a surprisingly thoughtful story, The Lego Movie is colorful fun for all ages."
Already, there are Lego 2 movie rumors that are circulating around the internet. One such rumor is that Marvel comic book characters may be brought on board for the sequel in the same way that DC's Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and Wonder Women got to appear in the first Lego film. However, in an exclusive interview with Coming Soon, Lord said, "Marvel seems to be doing fine on their own." To which Miller added, "They don't need LEGO to make their movies successful."
In related Lego 2 movie news, the sequel to the 2014 film will be followed by two more. According to Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has already marked out May 25, 2018 and May 24, 2019 for the release of two more animated Lego spin-off films.
