Red Band Society Season 1 Review, Release Date, Teasers, Rumors and Updates: Dark Humor is Attractive until it Involves Children
The show Red Band society premiered on Fox on September 17th and now has three episodes under its belt. The show about a group of children in hospital from the mean cheerleader, the over achieving girl and the good boy who tries to hide under a bad attitude is narrated by a child in a coma. All this happens under the watch of a tough as nails nurse who acts as their mother figure and a doctor who somehow cares for all of them so his specialty is still in question. Let us not forget the super cool millionaire who lives in the hospital because when he dies he has promised them his millions also he is a hypochondriac.
There are a few questions that arise immediately; is this a hospital or a spa? How can a kid just walk in and be admitted with no apparent source of income? Another glaring issue is; for sick kids they look quite good. Add to that the kid who has a tumor in his leg runs almost a mile across the hospital right before the surgery. Parents are almost absent in these children's lives and a boy goes to surgery with no guardian present to sign for it. The premise is also quite touchy there really is no humor in sick children even if you put them in a spa-like hospital that throws underage drinking parties on the helipad. The loopholes and the premise alone are enough to let you know that this show will not be around for long.
Red Band society is based on a Catalan drama series and maybe the American adaptation should have stuck to the genre. Dark humor is all well and good until it involves children. The pilot aired to 4.10 million viewers which came down to 3.43 million by episode two. That is not to say it is not interesting and funny, it is just a little difficult to watch and come cancellation season we suspect it will be on FOX's list of 'we tried but it just wasn't that good' shows.
