Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie Play Protagonist and Antagonist on John Le Carre's Spy Thriller, The Night Manager
Yes you heard it right, the dashing Loki, Tom Hiddleston and Dr. House, Hugh Laurie, is set to grace primetime TV in a limited-series adaptation of John le Carre's 1993 espionage thriller, The Night Manager. BBC will air the series in the U.K. while Ink Factory will produce. While there is no U.S. network attached to the series yet, THR reports that networks are eyeing a straight-to-series pick-up. Hanna scribe David Farr will write the adaptation, according to EW.com.
The spy thriller is about a former British soldier, Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston), turned night auditor for a luxury hotel. Pine meets an arab woman named Sophie and provides him information about Richard Onslow Roper (Laurie), a black market arms dealer. Sophie's betrayal cost her life. Pine becomes a spy and will infiltrate Roper's ring and avenge Sophie's death.
Le Carre's work was the basis of the movie, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy, which stars Gary Oldman and Colin Firth.
This TV Adaptation will mark Hiddleston's largest incursion into television, and is Laurie's return to TV after playing the acclaimed, Dr. House.
Hiddleston is taking a break from playing Loki, but is busy with the upcoming "Crimson Peak", which also stars Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam. While Laurie, is at the midst of shooting scenes for "Tomorrowland", where he co-stars with George Clooney.
