'Homeland' Season 4 Review: Fara and Saul back for more conspiracies
Three episodes down, nine more to go for the TV series "Homeland" season four. Interesting ideas are in the works for the show. Conspiracy angles are boiling and the Quinn and Mathison love angle started as well. Will the writers of the show push another 'love interest' subplot like what they did in the first two seasons? Aside from that, what else happened in season four?
The first three episodes of the season more or less emphasized that Carrie is not going to be a typical 'hands on deck' mom. Constructing CIA strategic feints, as the CIA Chief of station in Istanbul, is easier for Carrie (Claire Danes) than taking care of her own daughter. Also, after what happened with her and Brody (Damian Lewis), Carrie became more 'emotionally detached' making things harder even more with her bipolar disorder.
There was no remorse from Carrie when she ordered a drone strike against Haissam Haqqani and killed a lot of civilians. No pity or sympathy also when Sandy Bachman (Corey Stoll), the CIA Chief of Station in Pakistan was killed by an angry mob. These are some sure signs that she might need someone to help her cope with her emotions.
Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) is back to dip in some counterplotting schemes of the CIA. Upon returning to Istanbul, Saul was able to 'save' Carrie from some complications with the embassy. Fortunately, Saul intervened being in good terms with the American Ambassador Martha Boyd (Laila Robins).
Meanwhile, Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) is having second thoughts working as a CIA agent. But leaving the agency will be a bit tricky for Quinn after all the maneuvering done by his boss, Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham).
More cover-ups and conspiracies might happen in the last nine episodes after Carrie was able to convince Ayaan (Suraj Sharma) to become a CIA informant. Ayaan is one of the survivors in Haissam Haqqani drone strike. Aside from him, Carrie also resumes her contact with CIA informants Fara (Nazanin Boniadi) and Max (Maury Sterling).
Let's dig deeper in the stratagem of 'Iron in the Fire'. Michael Offer directs the fourth episode of "Homeland" season four.
