'Gone Girl' Stood Tall In Top Box Office Collection; Dubbed as A Provocative Film with Exceptional Actors
Novel-based films usually disappoint in terms of both ticket sales and screenplay content. But Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl" novel's film adaptation can be considered a great exception.
David Fincher's thriller remained at the top of the box office charts two weeks after its premiere. New York Times reported that "Gone Girl" has already reached whopping 10-day total of $78.3 million domestic ticket sales.
"Gone Girl" remained at the top despite equally anticipated films was launched during its first two-week period. Universal Studios' "Dracula Untold" followed Gone Girl's record with $23.5 million ticket sales while Disney's "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day'"comes at third place with $13.3 million.
Quoting a box office analyst, USA Today said that "Gone Girl" is a provocative adult film about a failed marriage that resulted in a great turmoil. "This is a thought-provoking film that still has people buzzing," Paul Dergarabedian, said. The analyst also noted that an adult thriller topping box office charts for two weeks is a 'rare' incident.
So what is it about "Gone Girl" that makes the movie-buffs rush into theaters? "Gone Girl," originally a best-selling novel written by Gillian Flynn, talks about an 'ultimate dysfunctional couple' played by Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike.
The unhappily married Dunne couple is the main character in "Gone Girl." The wife, Amy Dunne palyed by Rosamund Pike, went missing and is feared dead. Ben Affleck's character, Nick, the husband, was being blamed for Amy's lost. An investigation was held and it dug the secrets that surround the couple.
"Gone Girl" box office success can be traced with rave positive reviews from the movie-goers who were thrilled with the movie's plot and the actors' haunting performance as well. The Lantern reviewed the thriller drama and commended the actors who played 'unsettling' acting.
The review praised the story's "ntriguing and thrilling premise" that shows a different take on a dysfunctional marriage. Flynn, who also penned the movie's script, was able to engross the movie viewer and kept the story haunting and breathtaking.
Aside from the well-crafted plot and dialogues, the actors lead by Affleck and Pike made the movie better and more thrilling. The Hollywood actor continuously puzzled the audience if he is really an innocent good husband or the opposite.
Pike, on the other hand, has the biggest break in her acting career as she "lends equal doses of charm and malice to her role as the wife of Affleck's character." Like her counterpart, she delivered a very intriguing acting that kept the audience guessing.
Gone Girl's support cast, including Kim Dickens, Tyler Perry and Carrie Coon also acted made up the perfect ensemble. Combine the exceptional directing skills of Oscar award winning director David Fincher, "Gone Girl" is predicted to land Oscar nominations or even a trophy or two.
