Chris Brown Album "X" Update: New Album Continues to Rank in Billboard Top 200 Album Chart, but Declining Sales and Bad Reviews?

Chris Brown recently released his sixth studio album "X" on September 15, 2014 via RCA Records. His new album continues to rank in the Billboard Top 200 album chart, marked as one of the top 10, among the Top Rap and R&B albums.

However, the album "X" recently fell from ranking No. 6 to No.9, with a 36% decrease in its total sales. Also, an album review from The Cavalier Daily quoted,

"This incredibly long and convoluted album, with no clear message or theme, once again has lowered the expectations for Brown and for pop music".

That said, it's been two years since his last album "Fortune". Chris Brown is now taking his music towards a more soulful, mature and a vulnerable feel for the new album. In an interview with Ebon, Chris Brown mentioned that, this time, he "wanted to take the Quincy Jones approach". He even said that the new record "pays homage to the Stevie Wonders, the Michael Jacksons, the Sam Cookes". As for the album title "X", the artist explained that is it symbolic of many things in his life, and he quoted, "it implies you're progressing and moving on in life, not holding on to the past and your old ways".

The album's lead single "Fine China" was already released on March 29 the previous year, and it ranked 31 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
