'Myst' 1990s Game News: Popular 'Myst' Game Is Going To Be A Fantasy TV Series
The deal is done - "Myst," a popular game in the 90's, is going to be adapted into a fantasy TV series. Variety reported that a deal between the creators of "Myst" and Legendary Entertainment is already close. There's no update what platform will Legendary Entertainment use - a traditional or digital TV show.
"Myst" gained popularity in 1993. The player of the game will take on the role of the Stranger that uses a book to travel all throughout the island of the Myst. The Stranger need to solve puzzles to reveal characters and again, will use the book to travel to another world.
The deal was made between Cyan Worlds and the TV and Digital Media division of Legendary Entertainment where Bruce Rosenblum runs the department.
Rand and Robyn Miller, creators of the "Myst," said that the deal is beneficial. Their goal is not only to create a TV drama but hopes to crossover to video games, and other mobile platforms such as tablets. In an interview with Deadline, Cyan said,"Seventy percent of tablet owners use their device while watching TV at least several times a weel. Cyan sees the potential to push the boundaries of interactive storytelling to a new level." Cyan's spokesperson also said that "finally being able to express in a visual linear medium the rich story that the Myst franchise is dripping with."
"Myst" has been proven to be a successful franchise. Since it was released in 1993, "Myst" had three sequels, "Riven" and "Myst Online: Uru" which sold at least 15 million copies. A series of novels were also based on the game: "Myst: The Book of Atrus," "Myst: The Book of Ti'ana," and "Myst: The Book of D'ni."
After it was released for Mac and PC, "Myst" was also developed for Sega Saturn, 3DO, PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS, Mashable reports. Just last year, "Myst" was released as a game in iOS.
For most of us who are not familiar with the game, we can watch a walkthrough for it in YouTube. Now imagine playing this game in the 90's where there's no Youtube to guide you.
