'Utopia' TV Series Cancellation - Confirmation of the Show No Longer Returning for a Third Season Announced
If you have loved all the episodes from the first and the second season of the Fox TV series titled "Utopia," you will be disappointed to know that there will no longer be a third season. The show has not been renewed for Season 3 and here's what you need to know why this unfortunate event has occurred.
According to The Guardian, one of the possible reasons as to why the show was suddenly concluded and will not be returning for a third season is because of budget issues. This analysis is apparent, especially after the network has issued an official statement.
"Utopia is truly channel-defining: strikingly original, powered by Dennis Kelly's extraordinary voice and brought to life in all its technicolor glory through Marc Munden's undeniable creative flair and vision, the team at Kudos delivered a series which has achieved fervent cult status over two brilliantly warped and nail-biting series," the network explained in its statement. Channel 4 has also pointed out a fact that many viewers believe in - how the show has changed the views and perceptions of many people. In addition, the network also said that this sudden ending to the TV series is a necessary act in order for it to bring newer material to the public.
It is definitely a sad piece of news that the TV series is no longer going to appear, and as Independent UK has mentioned, Dennis Kelly, Utopia's showrunner, was planning great things for a third (even a fourth) season however the title had to be concluded because of its not-so-good ratings. All in all, as cited by Independent UK, the show, after having aired only two seasons, had its last episode aired the previous summer.
According to Business Week, the fact that the show received low ratings is no doubt one of the biggest reasons as to why the show had to be removed from the network's line up and even after Utopia's premiere episode, which was shown right after a Sept. 7 airing of an NFL game, only around 4.6 million people watched it. One has to wonder why this thing happened, seeing that the network implemented an extensive marketing plan for the show.
